Outcome Of The War
For US- The outcome of the Vietnamese war for the United States also involved a large loss of lives for the troops, financial setbacks, draining of resources, demoralization and disillusionment. Following the loss to the Communist forces, the United States appeared to experience isolationist sentiments, and it stayed aloof from the affairs of other countries for a length of time. It implicitly suffered from feelings of ineffectiveness as well. However, continuing confrontation with Communist rivals and action against Libya in 1986, kept the country active on the international scene. The focus of attention turned to the Middle East and fuel shortages.
For Vietnam- For Vietnam the outcome was a victory for the Communists, who took control of both North Vietnam and South Vietnam. The major outcome for the Vietnamese people was a huge loss of lives, devastation of land and property and disruption in the traditional way of life. The country of Vietnam, particularly the south, had become exposed to Western cultural trappings and the Western way of life, and continues to retain some of the aspects of the American way of life.
The Aftermath
Some say there was no winner in the Vietnam war because there was so much destruction on both sides. America lost over 50,000 lives, billions of dollars, her reputation as a trustful ally, and the unity of her citizens for decades. Both North and South Vietnam lost numerous soldiers and civilians.
In recent years, the Communist Vietnamese Government has been adopting a program known as “Doi moi”. This movement originated in Russia, and is an attempt to improve the Vietnamese Economy and to strengthen their relationship with the free world.
Vietnam is still paying for the consequences of the war and today it is one of the last communist countries and it is also the poorest country. Even though America lost the war, Vietnam lost a lot more.
In the aftermath of the Vietnam War, the only group of people who had a positive outcome was the Vietnamese Americans, and others Vietnamese communities in the free world. After the war America accepted thousands of thousands of Vietnamese refugees as citizens of this America.
